Chris the Cyclist!
I am often asked at events what made me start taking photos of cycling events....well like most cycling photographers I have also been a racing cyclist myself....in fact I still occasionally compete in a few TT's when I get the chance!.
I am former member of the Leek Cyclists Club and since the mid 80's I have ridden for the Stone Wheelers Cycling Club. In the 70's I was a North Staffs Champion at 10 miles,25 miles and Hillclimb event several times along with the Manchester GHS 10 mile TT Champ. I was also a runner up on the track and road race. In the 80's I was Midlands 25 Time Trial champion and regularily won and was placed in local Road Races and TT's. In 1983 I was ill for a short time and started taking photos of local and subsequently national events with numerous photos and portfolios regularily published in National magazines aswell as commissions from Cycling Weekly and Pro teams etc.
In the late 1990's I decided to return to time trialling once again regularily recording 55 and 21mins times and winning a few open TT's once again. A crash in 2000 made me pick up my camera again!
Although I have always covered events since the mid 80's I decided to make photography my job rather than a hobby in 2008 and since then I have been covering around 30 events every year and really enjoy still being part of the time trialling scene even though it is not as a competitor. Cheers.Chris
